The Wavell Ensemble

The Wavell Ensemble recently gave its inaugural series of performances at the 30th Aberdeen International Youth Festival and appeared at the following venues.

 

Aberdeen International Youth Festival 2002- 31stJuly - 10th August

 

Friday 2nd August

St. Machar Cathedral -7.45pm
The group's inaugural concert, given in the familiar surroundings of St Machar Cathedral, The Chanonry, Old Aberdeen. Also performing were Sandnes Music School Choir, Norway and Duet Bandurystok from the Ukraine. Featuring the world premiere of John Hearne's Contra Plagam.

Saturday 3rd August

Street Festival-Union Street
As part of the AIYF celebrations Union Street will be pedestrianised for the day. Various groups from the festival will be performing on the specially erected stage. Wavell Ensemble is pleased to be one of them.

Performance given inside the Trinity Shopping Centre, due to adverse weather conditions.

Clatt Auld Kirk -7.30pm
A favourite concert venue for the members of the Ensemble, we were delighted to returning to Clatt and were exceptionally well looked after as ever. Also featuring Duet Bandurystok from the Ukraine.

Sunday 4th August

Morning Service, Beechgrove Church -11am
By special request the enesmble shared in the morning worship of the congregation of the Beechgrove Church.

Beach Ballroom -3pm
Our final performance at the festival, the group took part in the children's show in the Beach Ballroom which tells the story of the hapless apprentice wizard Melvin MacTaggart who travels the world in search of the missing pieces for his magic wand. Produced by Michael Richardson.
